A double victory on the French and German fronts. Alexander Zverev finally broke the semifinal taboo at Roland Garros by pushing all the way to the final act of the tournament in this edition, after no less than three unsuccessful attempts.
On Sunday starting at 3 p.m. Sascha will play it all in the final against Carlos Alcaraz, in which he starts as a slight underdog mainly because of the several more hours he spent on court than his opponent.
An affirmation of sorts soon came, meanwhile, from the district court in Tiergarten. Lawyers for the Hamburg player reached an out-of-court settlement with ex-girlfriend Brenda Patea, who accused the athlete of being pushed against a wall and choked with both hands in May 2020 after a heated argument.
The pact, at the prosecutor’s request, will allow Zverev to dismiss the entire trial with payment of a 200,000-euro penalty (in October 2023 it was 450,000 euros).
The day of the grand final at Roland Garros 2024 has arrived: Carlos Alcaraz or Alexander Zverev. One of them will take home the Musketeers Cup for the first time in their careers and they will surely do so after a match that will go down in the history of the sport. And in terms of history, someone who boasts of having written a few pages is Bjorn Borg.
Bjorn Borg made history in Paris
Bjorn Borg will be in charge of presenting the winner’s trophy to the Murcian or the German, according to the newspaper MARCA. And it is 50 years since the 68-year-old former player first lifted that same trophy in Paris and the one that started his love affair with the tournament by winning a total of 6 titles.
Carlos Alcaraz made the final in Paris by winning the battle against Jannik Sinner and is just one step away from his third career major, it would be his first at Roland Garros. The 21-year-old from El Palmar, when he was not yet a professional tennis player, with his head under the pillow imagined many times that he would triumph on Parisian clay.
