Jannik Sinner is trying in every way to play at the Roland Garros, after the hip injury that affected him throughout the clay-swing. The hip injury, suffered between Monte Carlo and Madrid, forced the Italian to first give up and miss the quarter-finals of the Mutua Madrid Open and then to miss the Internazionali BNL d’Italia. But now Jannik is about to fly to Paris to try to play Roland Garros. Sinner underwent treatment at Juventus J-Medical in Turin and then returned to Monte Carlo, where the entire team joined him. Sinner and his team should try to carry out their final training sessions at Roland Garros, to understand if the young Italian has overcome his hip problem.
Once he arrives in the French capital, Jannik will test the waters and definitively understand whether he can take part in the tournament. A mission that until a few days ago seemed difficult to achieve, but after the physical improvements demonstrated by the Italian it now seems possible. The Roland Garros will start on Sunday and the Italian will therefore need to intensify training, after a few weeks of rest, without using the racket. The Parisian Major is played as a best of five sets and will immediately test Sinner’s physical fitness.
After the defeat against Grigor Dimitrov in Miami, however, Carlos Alcaraz only played in the Madrid tournament, surrendering to the pain in his forearm and to Andrey Rublev in the quarter-finals. Pain that led him to skip Rome to try to recover in time for the Roland Garros. According to media reports in Spain, Alcaraz began training at the Country Club of Murcia where he began the next phase of his rehabilitation.
The 21-year-old is working on his forehand in particular, gradually increasing the intensity of his shot. The progress would be promising, but it will be the last days on the eve of Paris that will provide the necessary answers. His coach Juan Carlos Ferrero is also monitoring the situation, ready to give him confidence as the days go by. In fact, Alcaraz still seems hesitant when he hits the forehand and the fear of having to stop again is great. According to the program established by the team, the current world number three should travel to Paris on May 22nd and test his condition
The question I want to analyze though is: Will Sinner and Alcaraz be competitive at Roland Garros if they manage to play? The two tennis players have been out for weeks and the injuries that have affected them are not so easy to overcome. Hip injuries are statistically very difficult to fully overcome. The forearm is also a very sensitive area for a tennis player. Trying to force yourself to play is a risky one: being in Paris is an important stimulus for both of you. However, their performances will inevitably be conditioned by a physical form which, inevitably, will be precarious. And in a tournament spread over two weeks and in the best of 5 sets, this becomes a factor that goes to the advantage of ATP No.1 Novak Djokovic.
Carlos Alcaraz’ final practice before heading to Roland Garros.
Hopefully he’s recovered from the arm injury & will be ready to do some damage in Paris.
Vamos, Carlitos. 🇪🇸💪

Jannik Sinner will travel to Paris today for Roland Garros.
Great to hear this after reports came out last week that Roland Garros was uncertain.
Hopefully he can pick up where he left off and get back to playing incredible tennis.
