World No. 1 Iga Swiatek’s French Open dominance has been taken to another level as the Pole has completed an impressive three-peat at Roland Garros after ousting Jasmine Paolini 6-2 6-1 in the final.
Swiatek, who entered the French Open final as the huge favorite, struggled a bit in the opening few games and Paolini went up by an early break. But from that moment on, there was only one player on the court as Swiatek absolutely crushed Paolini in the remainder of the final and went on a 10-game winning run before completing her win in an hour and eight minutes of play.
For Swiatek – who turned 23 during this year’s French Open – this was her fourth title at Roland Garros. Now, the 23-year-old Pole has four titles in six French Open appearances.
Also, Swiatek now has five Grand Slam titles in her collection as she also has one US Open title on her resume.
How Swiatek crushed Paolini?
When the match started, Paolini came out playing aggressively while Swiatek was making some unforced errors unusual for herself. And after not realizing a break point in the second game, Swiatek got broken in the third game as Paolini went 2-1 up.
But after falling down by a break, Swiatek instantly started playing her best as she claimed three breaks in a row and won the next five games to overturn the deficit and still very easily win the first set. It should be noted that Swiatek claimed breaks to love in the fourth and eighth games.
After winning the last five games of the first set, Swiatek also continued her run at the start of the second set and won the opening five games to push her run to 10 consecutive games won and go 6-2 5-0 up.
In the sixth game, Paolini finally managed to hold on to one of her service games and end Swiatek’s run of 10 consecutive games.
However, losing one game didn’t impact Swiatek, who routinely served out for the title in the following game after realizing her first championship point.
