During an interview with Sir Nick Faldo at the recent DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, Rory McIlroy hinted that his professional golf career would not be complete without a victory at the Masters, thus allowing him to achieve his Grand Slam in Majors.

Already assured of winning the Race before the start of the 2022-23 DP World Tour Championship, the final event of the season, Rory McIlroy finished in 22nd place, eleven strokes behind the winner, Nicolai Højgaard from Denmark.
He was probably already looking ahead to the 2024 season.
Without a Major win since the USPGA at Valhalla in Kentucky in 2014, the Northern Irishman expressed his emotions to Sir Nick Faldo during the recent DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.
It seems that missing the cut at Augusta last April still stings. It is probable that there would be a twinge of regret if I were to not attend this delightful dinner on Tuesday evening.
“I believe that over the past two years, I have learned something valuable.
It’s my dream to make my way to the Majors,” stated Rory McIlroy to his three-time Augusta winning interlocutor. “I had a great opportunity to do so this year at the US Open in Los Angeles, but was unable to achieve it. My performances at Oak Hill (USPGA) and The Open were decent, but I never had the opportunity to compete.
At this stage in my career, I have done many things, but the only thing I haven’t done is what you have done three times. That is what I want to achieve. It’d be regretful if I didn’t join you for the delightful dinner on Tuesday evening (Champions Dinner).”
To which Faldo replied, “If you want to come and have a chat with an old chap, you know where to find me.
Come visit the farm (in Montana) and we can talk golf, and I’ll give you some ideas.”
In 2024, Rory McIlroy has been freed from any PGA Tour Council obligations. With him and Tiger Woods as the driving forces behind it, the start of the Tech-Infused Golf League (TGL) has been pushed to 2025 after the collapse of the stadium roof in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida last week. Could 2024 be McIlroy’s year? Only time will tell.
